My Love Poems are the Most Palestinian Thing About Me: new essay in a dream pub, The Offing!
Looking back, my writing trajectory is wild because I spent years—like more than a decade!—honing my craft in journalism and creative nonfiction, only to start taking poetry seriously like two years ago and become better known for that. Life is funny like that, and I’m not complaining; I love where this is taking me.
This is to say that I haven’t written many creative nonfiction essays in the past year, but I wrote one about how it’s my cultural inheritance as a Palestinian to write love poems because there’s a long tradition of love poetry not just in the Arabic language, but in Palestinian literature as a whole. And that essay was just published in one of my dream publications that I’ve been trying to get into for years: The Offing!
Check out “My Love Poems are the Most Palestinian Thing About Me” and let me know what you think. I hope you like our national poet, Mahmoud Darwish, as much as I do. :)
