Another poem was nominated for Best of the Net! + other news
It’s been a whirlwind over here!
On October 17th (my 34th birthday!) Sara Abou Rashed and I were interviewed by Andy Downing of Matter News about being Palestinian writers and creatives during this horrible time of genocide. The event took place at Two Dollar Radio Headquarters and the audience asked such engaging questions. Easily one of the most rewarding events I’ve ever done.
Early the next morning, I went to Lit Youngstown to participate in a poetry reading on Friday, the 18th, and lead a workshop on literary sportswriting on the 19th.
On October 24th, I was a part of the Asian American Girls and Gays, I Love You reading at Two Dollar Radio, where I read a queer poem, a Palestine poem, and a queer Palestine poem. It was also when I soft-launched my pseudo-secret hobby, weaving, in the form of woven Palestine flags. I made 8 and 6 of them sold, so we were able to raise a couple hundred dollars for Gaza.
And then I found out my poem, “our people had mansions,” which won the 2024 Porter House Review Editor’s Prize in Poetry, was also nominated for Best of the Net. Before this year, I’d never gotten a BotN nomination for poetry and this year I got two.
Thanks for following along on the journey and supporting my work. xoxo
