I have a poem in Southern Humanities Review!
If you live in Alabama for more than five minutes, you’ve been asked, “Are you Alabama or Auburn?” So, growing up there, I was asked tens of thousands of times. The age-old football rivalry is an inescapable cultural touchpoint, yet I never had a good answer because I cannot for the life of me understand football, despite how many times the game has been lovingly, patiently explained to me.
As far as lit mags go, I love the work both colleges are doing. My poem “everyone’s favorite palestinian” was published in the University of Alabama’s Black Warrior Review a couple of years ago, and now, my poem “dreaming of a whole new world” (also Palestinian) has been published in Auburn University’s Southern Humanities Review!
So while I still don’t have a definitive answer to Alabama’s inevitable question, I’m glad I get to enjoy reading and being in both literary magazines.
