Other Stuff Mandy Does
Book Blog
Started in 2014, the Off the Beaten Shelf book blog gets thousands of views every month. Mandy believes that reading diversely, both in author and in genre, is the way to a good life of book nerdery. Covering topics like reader culture, book reviews, new releases, the publishing industry’s latest antics, writing, and more, it’s a one-stop blog for the reader who likes a literary sampler plate.
Wedding Officiant
Mandy is an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church and a registered officiant in Ohio. Being an atheist, they specialize in secular weddings. Being a writer, they’re happy to pen a custom reading for the couples they unite in marriage. Want Mandy to officiate your wedding and/or write your ceremony?
Ebooks & Resources
Need advice on writing and publishing? Want to know how a normal person reads 150+ books a year while having a social life and producing their own creative work? Mandy creates ebooks and other resources for questions they get asked regularly. Grab your copy!
Vintage Shop
When they’re not working on their book or swimming in their to-be-read pile, Mandy is scouting vintage fashion finds and gorgeous old books for her Etsy shop, Posh&Page. The shop is an eclectic mix of quirky, classy, and clever looks, with a touch of granny chic. (Because grandma knows best.)
Roller Skating
Mandy is an avid roller skater and can be found shredding at skate parks around Ohio and the Midwest. Their love of skateparks is what inspired their first book, Midwest Shreds: Skating Through America’s Heartland, forthcoming from Belt Publishing in spring 2024.
Silent Book Club
Mandy runs the Columbus, Ohio, chapter of Silent Book Club, an international movement to encourage groups of people to read quietly together in public. Since there’s no assigned book, everyone brings whatever they’re currently reading. Folks love it because you get the social benefits of a book club with none of the homework.
Activism
Mandy has been working their skater-muscled buns off to help preserve affordable senior housing in Columbus, which is disappearing quickly as the city grows. Specifically, they’re working to save Courtyard Estates, a senior housing mobile home community, from destruction by a developer who wants to turn it into luxury apartments––without regard for what will happen to the existing senior population.
Zines
In addition to traditionally published online and print publication, Mandy also makes zines! Check out their latest, Marionette Lines: A Family History of Patriarchy and Puppetry. It’s a wild ride that includes jealous ventriloquists, Appalachian granny witches, country preachers, and the Oracle at Delphi. Copies are available in zine-selling establishments in New York City, Chicago, and Columbus, Ohio, as well as Mandy’s Etsy shop.
More Zines
Mandy is also writing a zine series! Stone Cold Bitch is a queer love story with Greek mythology set in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2008. It's like Medusa meets The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. You're in for a good time. The story opens with Medusa trading her toga for a Juicy Couture tracksuit...
