Freshwater, fresh poem
I wrote a poem about grief this summer, months before I knew just how much I’d grieve this year and just how strong I’d have to be. Sometimes you just know things in your body because, as they say, the body keeps the score.
The poem is “the clamshell” and it’s out now in The Journal, published by Ohio State University. This is exciting for a couple of reasons: There’s going to be a launch party and because OSU is local to me I’ll get to go, and this poem was solicited! As in the managing editor follows me on Instagram and we ran into each other at a book fair and he asked me to contribute. Being solicited doesn’t mean they have to publish what you send, but it’s really nice (and validating!) to be asked.
I’d appreciate it if you’d give “the clamshell” a read. <3
