An essay gets new life in Doubleback Review!

I started taking my writing seriously in 2016 and one of the early pieces I had published was a creative nonfiction piece called “Plucking Chin Hairs” in New Southerner Magazine. The essay won Honorable Mention in their nonfiction contest that year and I’ll never forget how validating that was. I even went down to Louisville for the launch party to share the piece on stage and meet my fellow contributors.

Unfortunately, New Southerner has since gone defunct and since the piece was only ever published in print, I thought it was lost to the tide of publishing. But then I found Doubleback Review, a literary magazine that publishes reprints of excellent writing that were originally published in now-defunct magazines.

“Plucking Chin Hairs” was accepted again, and I did some edits since I have a more developed eye for my craft now. Please enjoy this essay’s second life in the latest issue of Doubleback Review.
