My poems are in Text Me When You Get Home, an art exhibit of Palestinian text-based artists and creators!
In the Arab world, poetry and calligraphy are venerated art forms. This art exhibit, Text Me When You Get Home, pays homage to that tradition by featuring poems, calligraphy, performance art, and other text-inspired pieces by Palestinian writers and artists with connections to Ohio. I’m honored to have a handful of poems featured in the poetry maze alongside Noor Hindi, Sara Abou Rashed, and the curator, Mona Gazala!
The exhibit is at the Hopkins Hall Gallery at Ohio State University in June 2023 and is traveling to Gazala Projects in Gettysburg, Ohio, for July 2023. At the opening reception, Sara and I, being local to Columbus, performed some poems for the crowd. Some of the poems I performed are featured in the exhibit and others are brand new and unpublished. Check out the video of my reading to experience them!
There’s also a slideshow from the gallery below. All the photos were taken either by myself, Mona Gazala, or Andrew Miller (who used a 35mm camera and developed the negatives by hand).
If you’re local, go see the exhibit before it leaves Hopkins Hall Gallery at the end of June and if you’re in western Ohio, go see it at Gazala Projects in July!
Also, if you’re curious who the guys with me are, the shorter one in the green shirt is my husband, Jon, and the taller one in the plaid shirt is my boyfriend, Michael.
