Ohio takes step in the right direction toward righting the wrongs done against Indigenous peoples
Long story short, Ohio fucked up 200 years ago when colonizers genocided and exiled the indigenous populations who called the area home since time immemorial. The descendants of those exiled indigenous folks are now largely in Oklahoma.
And while a state park and education center honoring Ohio’s indigenous peoples can’t and won’t right those historical wrongs, it’s a step in the right direction. That state park, Great Council, is set to open this spring and I got to write about it for Arts Midwest.
