Celebrating Pride Month with a fresh queer Palestinian poem
If you know me in real life, you might know I can be stubborn ("hardheaded,” as my Appalachian forebears would say), and I don’t suffer fools well. So after hearing a couple of different versions of “queer Palestinians don’t exist” and knowing from lived experience that’s bullshit, I finally started writing a series of poems addressing the trolling comments I received. You know what they say about turning lemons into lemonade.
And so, I’m proud—pardon the pun—to share my latest poem, an homage to queer Palestinians called “a square metre in palestine,” which was just published at AGNI. It’s Pride Month, so the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
Give it a read, and let me know what you think!
And if you’re local to Columbus, Ohio, you can hear me perform this poem, as well as other queer poems, alongside some other queer poet powerhouses on Friday, June 28th at 8pm at Two Dollar Radio Headquarters!
